Velvets and chiffons, faerie tale clothes. Definitely designed
for the romantic dreamer in us, these fashions include a
gorgeous floor length, hooded cape in silk velvet (the most
expensive item in the selection at $285), flowing skirts,
tunics, and shawls. My favorite skirt, described as looking "as
if it could be made of cobwebs and stardust," is actually made
of a more practical silk chiffon and costs right around $100. A
bit pricey, but these are exciting, unusual, and very feminine
and available in "bountiful" or custom sizes. Regarding large
sizes, they write: "We have found, in the last year, that our
Bountiful clientele is quite diverse. Rather than trying to make
clothes that are not going to fit you, we suggest you inquire
about the fashions you are interested in. We keep a very small
inventory to begin with, so many of our orders are made up when
we receive them. We only charge about $10 more on most Bountiful
items and this is truly because we tend to receive fabrics that
are not very wide and do in fact use more yardage for these
items. It is not a fat tax! So, please call us and let's see
what is possible."

Their regular catalog has some large-size clothing, in
particular maternity clothing. They fill orders in a few days.
They are good about returns. You can return catalog merchandise
to their stores. Some folks have had problems ordering from JC
Penney's large size and kids' catalogs (for example, one person
complained that many items are sold out before the catalog even
arrives). Others have had good experiences. Their outlet stores
have good sales on women's and men's and maternity clothing and
offer clothing in women's sizes 28-30 and up.

their pantyhose aren't sized right for pear shaped bodies, feel
rough against the skin, and tend to bag at the knees and ankles.

shoes in wide widths. Quality is good, prices moderate. Phone

A while back, they ran a picture on the front cover of their
catalog of a slender woman standing in a pair of shorts about
ten sizes too big for her, which she has to hold up the
waistband to keep from falling off her. Two other women stand at
either side holding the legs of the shorts out to show how huge
they are on her. They are all smiling as if at a joke. Some
folks do not patronize them because they feel this picture was
inappropriate and offensive to fat people.

The catalog is not affiliated with the retail stores. Misses'
sizes 14-20, women's sizes 36-60. They do have strapless bras
and soft-cup bras that aren't underwires and don't give you a
monobosom look. They have swimsuits. They use thin models.
Clothing varies in quality (for example, buttons sometimes
come off easily) and fashion consciousness. The general consensus
seems to be that if you read the catalog carefully and avoid
certain fabrics (such as rayon, which tends to shrink) you can
find a few fashionable good quality things. Clothing sizes tend to
be accurate. Some have praised their silk blouses and Hunter's
Run denim leggings. Good sales. Good about taking things back.
They may be offering some large and supersize men's clothing
to 9X. "I know it's common to pooh-pooh the Lane Bryant and
Roaman's catalogs, but the fact is that they *are* the most
affordable clothing source for women up to the smaller end of
supersize." Dresses and suits are less commonly offered in larger
sizes.

the U.S. Trendy clothing, pricey if you don't buy on sale. Sizes
to 28 or 32. Some people have (big) problems with the quality.
Selections vary a lot by location. So far they haven't used
large-size models in their advertising. Their web site,
infuriatingly, prattles about "real women" and advertises a
"search for real women contest" for women size 14 and over --
while using thin models in the pictures! Not affiliated with the
